The Bloomer Legacy: 9.28 Linger

August 12, 2016 The Plumbob 17 Comments

The doors of Magnolia High spread wide open, but it was still barely enough space for all the excited teens to make their way out. They burst into the streets of Magnolia Promenade with unusual vigour; the last day of the school year was finally over!

2

And that meant freedom for the summer, impending adventures and of course, a final blowout pool party over at the teen lounge. No wonder everyone was buzzing with anticipation…

3

Well, almost everyone. Louis and Vito didn’t particularly feel like celebrating.

“Can you like… miss your plane tomorrow or something?” Vito suggested.

Louis attempted a smile. “I’m not too sure that would help in the long run.”  He played woth the ends of his scarf distractedly. “I didn’t think the year would go by so fast when I first got here…”

“No, me either.” Vito agreed.

4

“But hey, it’s not fully over yet,” Vito pulled Louis closer. “We’ve still got tonight!”

“Yeah… I guess we do.” Louis nodded.

“Maybe if we forget about tomorrow for long enough, it’ll never come.”

5

Carly and Ralph were in a much brighter mood.

“Careful with those matches,” Carly smiled as she joined Ralph by the bonfire wood.

“Pfft, your lack of confidence in me is shocking,” Ralph teased her. “I know what I’m doing… Woah!”

6

Ralph took a step back. “I do have to admit that fire is way bigger than I anticipated!”

Carly giggled. “Not to say I told you so…”

“Well, it’s already settled that you’re way smarter than me.” The boy shrugged with a grin.

“What would you do without me…”

Ralph looked pensive for a moment. “Light obscenely large fires, apparently.

“I’m glad I have an important part to play in your life,” Carly laughed.

“You do.” Ralph replied, turning serious. “You know that, right?”

7

Carly felt so much joy she failed to express it with words. She simply nodded.

They remained silent, just enjoying the moment, each other’s company and the prospect of the things to come.

8

After all, for them, it was only the beginning…

9

For Louis and Vito, on the other hand, it was all about desperately trying to hang on to the time they had left.

Seraphina didn’t see it that way though. She just saw two people not wanting to let go.

10

And in spite of the fact these two annoyed her to no end (well, one of them in particular), she couldn’t help but wonder if anyone would ever feel that way about her.

Doubtful, the voice inside her head said.

She decided to head to the bar, already regretting her decision to come to this stupid party in the first place.

11

Hallie was in the zone. She got her hands on a brand new track and she was loving it. The beat was already luring her into all kinds of other words, tempting her with thoughts of songs this might mix well with. She swayed from side to side, humming the tune.

12

“Can we talk?”

She slowly felt the joy being sucked out of the moment. Why couldn’t it linger for a little longer? Why did he have to ruin it?

13

“Sure,” she forced herself to sound neutral. She begrudgingly put the headphones down and followed Larobb over to the fire pit.

14

“What’s up?” She asked when they sat down. Not that she didn’t know what he wanted to talk about… but she was playing for time.

“You’ve been distant,” he got straight to the point. “Ever since we got together, you seem to be avoiding me. This is not how it was supposed to work.”

“Oh, and how was it supposed to work?” Hallie snapped. “Enlighten me…”

15

“It was meant to bring us closer… shouldn’t that be obvious?” Larobb asked. “We’re together now, after all…”

“I fail to see how we’re more together now then we used to be,” Hallie frowned.

“So do I.” Larobb surprised her. “We aren’t, are we?”

Hallie couldn’t bear to answer.

16

“I just don’t know what went wrong,” Larobb said. “It’s me, isn’t it? If I was more handsome, or funnier, or taller, or more muscular…”

“Larobb…”

“Is it somebody else? Do you like someone from the school?”

“No!”

17

“It’s nobody,” Hallie tried to put it in words. “Well, it’s me…”

“Oh plum, you’re not giving me the it’s not you, it’s me phrase, are you?” Larobb raised his voice. “We’re better than that, aren’t we?”

“It’s not an excuse!”

18

“I’ve told you, I just don’t exactly want to get physical with anyone,” she stumbled over her words. “I… I don’t understand the big draw. Nobody I’ve seen pursuing this stuff seems happier for it…”

“Seriously?” Larobb was losing patience. “Look around you! Look at your own family…”

“I am. They’re pretty dysfunctional, don’t you think?”

“Don’t change the plumming topic,” Larobb yelled. “I’m tired of your games!”

My games?”

19

“You say you love me, but every time I kiss you, you look like you want to be anywhere but with me. You say you think I’m handsome but I seem to repulse you. You say I’m your soulmate but you barely want to talk to me!” All of Larobb’s hurt feelings were pouring out. “If it’s not games, then what is it?”

20

Hallie was dumbfounded. “You… you really feel that way?”

“How do you think I should feel?” He hissed.

“I’ve never lied to you, Larobb,” Hallie said. “I do love you. And what we had, have, is special. Was special. I don’t know. It is different now. Because you wanted things to change. And I said I’d try to change for you, but… I don’t know if I can. I mean, kissing is already weird enough. I can’t even begin to imagine… Well, you know. But not just with you. With anybody. You’ve got to understand…”

21

Larobb couldn’t hold his frustration back any longer:

“Yeah, I understand! You’re plumming frigid! People don’t excite you, because you’re so plumming cold inside!”

Hallie’s world turned inside out. She couldn’t believe her best friend just said that about her.

22

“Why does everything have to revolve around physical attraction?” She yelled back at him. “Just because I don’t want to woohoo your brains out means I don’t have a heart? That I don’t care about you? That my feelings for you aren’t valid!?

I care about you regardless of whether you’re hot or whatever! Shouldn’t that make my feelings more real? But maybe you’re right. If you really think these things about me, I don’t even know who you are anymore. So you’re right, maybe I don’t love you. I love who I thought you were…”

She couldn’t go on any longer. She was on the verge of tears.

23

“Hallie, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” Larobb sounded broken. “I should have never said what I said. I… I don’t even recognise myself anymore.”

He paused, as if he’d already regretted what he was about to say:

“I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this. You see what I’m becoming. It’s driving me nuts! You say these things, and maybe you mean them now, but one day you’ll meet someone who’ll make you weak in the knees. And I’ll still be sitting here like a plumming idiot. Your platonic ‘love’. I want more, Hallie. I need more.”

24

Hallie felt helpless. “So… where does that leave us?” She asked.

“It doesn’t.”

They fell silent for a while. And then, she watched him stand up, as in slow motion.

25

“Larobb, come on,” she pleaded. “We can figure this out. I don’t wanna lose you. I can’t lose you, please…”

“I can’t,” he just whispered lifelessly. “I can’t be just your friend. And you can’t be my girlfriend. Don’t you see? We’ve both lost already.”

26

And then he was gone. Gone from the couch, gone from the lot, gone from her life. Just like that.

Tears started rolling down Hallie’s cheeks.

27

The atmosphere was much more relaxed on the balcony. Carly, Ralph, Vito and Louis were lounging in the hot tub, their eyes slowly starting to fall. Louis was dozing off.

“Oh no, it’s the sunrise!” Carly gasped.

“Not the vicious sunrise!” Ralph laughed.

“We’ve got to go home! Mom and dad are going to kill us…” She stood up, shaking the water off in an almost dog-like fashion.

“Oh come on, they’ll understand…”

28

“Yeah,” Vito added. “I think Louis and I will stay for a bit longer. Since it is Louis’s last night here. So… you know.”

“And on that note, I’m out of here too,” Ralph swiftly made an exit as well.

29

Louis was completely awake all of the sudden. They barely waited for Carly and Ralph to shut the balcony door.

30

“Hey Vito,” Louis stopped in the middle of the kiss. “You won’t forget me, will you?”

“Forget you? Are you crazy!?”

31

And for that moment, he forgot about everything but Louis.

32

“Plummit, maybe we can make the distance,” Louis said later on, when things were back to being less steamy. “It’s only a couple of years, right? I can move back here again once I finish high school. You can visit me in Windenburg in between…”

“Yeah,” Vito smiled sadly. “I’d like that.”

“We’ll make it.”

“We’ve got to.”

33

Vito pulled Louis closer for another kiss, savouring every last ounce of him, though. Just in case.

Carly and Ralph are adorable together, and Sera was very brave to go to the party after what happened at the last one she went to. I think Louis and Vito will try to make it work – I just hope they succeed. As narcissistic as Vito is, he cares about Louis a lot.
And Hallie… poor darling. She deserves someone who will accept her as she is – I’m just sorry she had to find out that Larobb wasn’t that person in such a harsh way.

Plus the “Light obscenely large fires, apparently.” conversation just made me laugh so much =p

Haha glad you liked that line! :) Can’t really comment on much else without giving spoilers :)

I hope Louis and Vito make it!
Sera is in a real self- destructive pattern right now.
Carly and Ralph are so cute! I love the we-have-our-whole-lives-in-front-of-us vibe.

Poor Hallie. I wish she could explain herself better to Larobb, he just doesn’t get it. But I can appreciate his honesty that he doesn’t want the type of relationship she does.

I don’t know if self-destrcutive is the exact way I’d describe it, but Sera definitely doesn’t seem to be in a very happy place right now. She’s being quite harsh on herself at the moment. And yeah, unfortunately Larobb just doesn’t understand where Hallie’s coming from, but they just didn’t seem to be able to find a common ground.

Okay, I’ll be honest. I was nearly crying by the end of Hallie and Larrob’s conversation.

I’m asexual myself, and although I’ve never been a situation like Hallie’s (thank goodness) this still resonated deeply. Wow.

Out of curiosity, how long did the school year last in-game?

Err well I play on long life span (cheating oops) and they still had maybe a week till aging up at the “end of the school year”? And thank you, I’m glad it came across as relatable since it’s not something I have personally experienced. Didn’t mean to make anyone cry though!

Is it bad that I’m hoping for Vito and Louis to end? Vito needs a serious dose of reality. I like Louis, I think he’s a looot more in touch with reality than Vito, so I hate to see him get hurt…but like, their perfect romance/Vito’s perfect self is disgusting lmao.

I really feel for Hallie…it’s gonna be hard for her to lose her best friend. I hope she finds someone else who understands her better. And Larobb just needs to move on…maybe once both of them have, they can be friends again. But neither of them deserve to feel like they aren’t “enough” for the other. I’m glad they realized that.

Haha! It’s not bad, per say. Vito is definitely just a touch full of himself. Poor Louis wouldn’t deserve to get hurt though, he’s such a wonderful sim.

Yeah, perhaps Hallie and Larobb can find a way to be friends again some time in the future, but at the moment it’s something that would be too painful for both of them.

Hi! I love this legacy so much, and I look forward to reading more adventures of gen 9. I have a gameplay question for you: how closely do you follow legacy rules? Not trying to be pinstar police, just wondering whether you match your writing to randomly generated traits/aspirations or you have a specific story line in mind and match the traits accordingly. I ask because I saw the kids’ traits listed on your plum tree and was very impressed how they as Sims matched their characters in your blog. In general, are you playing to a storyline or mostly just playing and writing out what happens?

    • The Plumbob
      August 15, 2016 - 10:37 pm

That’s a good question! I do roll the traits, and then I work with them based on whims, random events and what I think they’d do considering the traits they have. I do get to decide on the third trait mind, as per the Build Newcrest rules :)

Mind you, I’m terrible at following a lot of the other rules! I switch households to check on spares/friends/romantic interests, leave Newcrest, move out heirs and most recently I’ve started playing on long lifespan – so definitely not Pinstar perfect!

As for the second question, I play the way I’d normally play my game, but I always come up with a bunch of backstories and reasonings in my head when the stuff is happening. I went to a lot of (unnecessary) detail talking about how the gameplay and story work together when my story was read in the Book Club, so that might give you a more in depth response if you want to have a look.

Sera, I’m rooting for you, baby! I’ve never been a fan of yours, but I want to be.

I always liked Hallie, and I feel sad for her struggle. I have never heard of asexuality before reading your story, so thank you for enlightening me. Poor thing. Especially being so young, it must be so confusing. And losing your best friend in the process must hurt so badly! Just keep swimming, Hallie!

I think it’s something I’ve become more aware of recently, I’ve known about it for a while but never met anyone. There’s actually a lot of asexual people on the sims forums so it got me thinking (also, I got a bot sick of the whole “shipping” obsession…)

Thank you for your response! I’d never “been to” the book club before, but I really enjoyed your posts there. Your legacy fascinates me and I’m happy to read more behind the scenes stuff about it!
Another question: when you say you edit your townies, do you edit their looks as well as their clothes? The Bloomer spouses always look much more attractive than the squinty eye square jaw townies I find in my game 😛

      August 17, 2016 - 8:43 pm

      Thank you very much!

I don’t change townie genetics, but the again, most of the “townies” you will have seen in the last couple of generations have been reader submitted sims.

I did get a lot of genuinely gorgeous townies though – Lilah, Ruby, Scarlet… And Cassiel was a child of two townies and she looked stunning.

Ah so many heartbreaking things in this chapter. :( My heart goes out to Hallie and Larobb, as well as Louis and Vito. These two guys are sickly sweet, but I know how it feels to maintain a LDR, so I’m really hoping for the best for them.

Yes, heartbreaking for Hallie and Larobb, seems like they couldn’t find a way to make things work for both of them. And I agree, long distance relationships are awful.
